Thiruvengadu – Swetharanyeswarar Temple


Thiruvegadu is located near Sirkazhi (about 25 km from Mayiladuthurai and 59 km from Kumbakonam).

Significance:          

Budhan Sthalam dedicated to planet Mercury.       

This Shiva temple is one of the 6 most sacred places on the banks of river Cauvery which is considered as equivalent to the temple at Varanasi. The other 5 shivasthalams are Thiruvaiyaru, Chaayaavanam, Mayiladuturai, Tiruvidaimarudur and Tiruvanchiyam.

Thiruvengadu has the pride of being sung by the Great Four, Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar.
