Mayiladuthurai – Mayuranathaswami Temple

Mayiladuthurai main icon is a lingam and the presiding deity is called Mayuranathar because the Parvathi worshipped Shiva here in the form of a mayura.

Significance:                      

One of the six temples on the banks of Cauvery which are considered equivalent to Kasi.

The raja gopura at the eastern entrance to the temple is 9 tiers high and measures 194 feet.
